Assistant Project Manager

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) at Costello Construction plays a critical role in supporting the successful execution of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This position partners closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and company standards.

The APM assists in coordinating project activities, managing documentation, supporting subcontractor and vendor relationships, and maintaining clear communication across all stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date project documentation and job records
  • Assist in identifying, soliciting, and evaluating subcontractors and vendors
  • Support the Project Manager in issuing subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and coordination efforts
  • Help establish and maintain the project CPM schedule
  • Coordinate with field staff to support mobilization and ongoing site activities
  • Assist in procurement and timely delivery of materials for self-performed work
  • Manage and process project documentation including:
    • Requests for Information (RFIs)
    • Submittals
    • Transmittals
    • Change Orders and Proposed Change Orders
  • Support quality control efforts to ensure compliance with project specifications and company standards
  • Attend project meetings and help maintain strong client relationships through consistent communication and site involvement
  • Collaborate with Business Development to support project pursuits as needed
  • Assist in coordination of drawings and ensure timely submission per contract requirements
  • Support project closeout activities, including:
    • Punch lists
    • O&M manuals
    • Inspections and permits
    • Certificate of occupancy
    • Final document archiving

Team & Company Support

  • Provide support to Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to ensure overall project success
  • Contribute to a collaborative, solutions-driven team environment
  • Take initiative and adapt to meet project and company needs
